Can you create an ad that will make people donate blood?

Ad Club Madras in association with Jeevan Blood Bank presents Deadline 2008.
Participation open to all Advertising Professionals. Entry fee Rs.750/- per entry. Multiple entries allowed.

The Challenge
Blood from a truly altruistic blood donor who donates blood repeatedly is the safest. All additional testing of blood enhances safety. More than 50% of patients needing blood come to Chennai for advanced medicare and have no friends or relatives to ask for blood donation. More than 50% of blood donations today are by donors who donate to replace blood that is being used for patients - not entirely voluntary (altruistic) blood donation.

Chennai needs approximately 3 lakh blood donations a year to save lives. Theoretically if a person can donate blood 4 times a year, we need only 75,000 blood donors a year! In reality, we need 150,000 voluntary donors who can donate blood twice a year to make the blood safer. Chennai has approximately 6.8 million people of which 2.4 million are voters - essentially above the age of 18.

    The Facts
  • Tested blood is not always available in blood banks at the hour of need
  • Patients are being asked to bring donors when the family has more important things to worry about
  • It takes approximately 8 working hours to complete testing of donated blood
  • More than 60% of individuals in the age group of 20 and 35 years have not donated blood
  • 80% of these people said “no one asked me”
  • Every blood donation will help three to four patients

The Purpose of this campaign
To create advertisment that will motivate people to stretch their arm and donate blood without waiting for a cal, and ensure availability of tested blood always in the blood bank.

Entries, to be eligible, must be of size 200 cc = 800 sq. cms (dimensions: 25 cms H x 32 cms W), and must be sent as hard copies (printed on A3 sheets).
